Allowing clients to provide custom branding to their Application

This project was to create a UI that would allow clients to add custom theming to our application portal, a tool used to apply to colleges. The project required 1. developing a strategy for which portions of the application can be customized and 2. creating a UI that would allow customization and control for accessibility concerns.

Process

I started by auditing the Application Portal and grouping items that could easily be customized together, creating a simple theme.

Next I developed a set of screens to control the theming. These screens would show a live preview using an iframe and live inside a configuration product.

They would also call an API to check color contrast, ensuring colors chosen are sufficient for accessibility needs.

In addition to changing colors, clients can upload background images, logos, and add custom CSS.
